Tough Dry Wire, manufactured by Tokyo Rope MFG, is a special wire rope developed for purse seine fisheries.
Tough Dry Wire is a profile wire. Its strands are die-formed to change their line contact into surface contact to achieve a smoother surface to support:
- Higher breaking load;
- Better fatigue resistance;
- Better abrasion resistance;
- Less distortion; and
- Less damage to the drum, the roller and the sheave.
Their synthetic fiber core supports the strands to retain their shape and also retains a grease to lubricate and prevent rusting of the wire from inside.
When compared to steel-cored types, Tough Dry Wire with the synthetic fiber core has:
- Better flexibility;
- Better shock- and vibration absorbency;
- Higher grease retention; and
- Smaller mass.
